Therapy via Video

Video-based therapy sessions are a practical, effective way to access professional support from wherever you are. This page explains how therapy via video works, what to expect, and how to get the most from your sessions.

Therapy via video – is a secure, effective way to access therapy from anywhere in the UK. Sessions are held on a secure video platform and follow the same structure as in-person therapy: 50-minute sessions, usually weekly, with a qualified therapist. Research confirms that video therapy is as effective as face-to-face work for the majority of concerns.

    How Video Sessions Work

Before your session, I send you a secure link. At the agreed time, you click the link and join from your device – laptop, tablet, or phone. The session lasts 50 minutes, the same as in-person therapy.

I currently use Google Meet for all sessions. Google Meet is a secure, encrypted platform that works directly in your browser without requiring any software download. If I move to Google Meet in future, the same level of security and accessibility will apply.

    What You Need

    • A stable internet connection
    • A device with a camera and microphone
    • A private space where you will not be interrupted
    • Headphones (recommended but not essential – they add an extra layer of privacy)

Tips for Getting the Most From Video Therapy

    • Find a private space – this is the most important factor. You need to feel confident that you will not be overheard or interrupted
    • Test your setup – check your camera, microphone, and internet connection before your first session
    • Minimise distractions – close other tabs and apps, put your phone on silent
    • Position your camera – at eye level if possible, so it feels like a natural conversation
    • Have water nearby – sessions can be emotionally demanding
    • Give yourself time afterwards – if possible, avoid scheduling something immediately after your session

    Security and Privacy

Your privacy is a priority. Sessions are held on a secure, encrypted video platform. I do not record sessions, and neither should you – recording is not permitted without written consent from both parties.

For full details on how your information is handled, see Confidentiality.

When Video May Not Be Suitable

Video therapy works well for the vast majority of clients, but there are some situations where it may not be the best option:

    • If you cannot find a private space
    • If your internet connection is unreliable
    • If you are in a situation where being seen on camera is a safety concern

In these cases, telephone therapy may be an alternative. Telephone Therapy UK

    UK-Wide Availability

Because sessions are held online, I can work with clients anywhere in the UK. There is no need to find a local therapist – you can access specialist support from wherever you are.

    Scope and Boundaries

Video therapy requires a stable internet connection and a private space where you will not be overheard or interrupted. If you cannot secure a private environment, video therapy may not be appropriate. I do not offer in-person sessions. If your internet connection fails during a session, we can continue by telephone as a backup. I do not record sessions, and recording by either party is not permitted.

What platform do you use for sessions?

Sessions are held via Google Meet, a secure video platform that works in your browser. If you have concerns about a specific platform, please get in touch and we can discuss alternatives.

What happens if my internet drops during a session?

If the connection drops, I will wait for you to reconnect. If the interruption is significant, we may extend the session slightly or arrange a brief follow-up. Technical issues happen occasionally and are handled practically.

Can I use my phone for sessions?

Yes. A phone with a camera and stable internet connection works fine. A laptop or tablet may be more comfortable for longer sessions, but a phone is perfectly acceptable.

    Is video therapy secure?

Yes. Sessions are held on an encrypted platform. I do not record sessions. For full details on privacy and data handling, see Confidentiality and Privacy and Cookies.

If you would like to try video-based therapy, I offer a short, free introductory call first. There is no obligation.
