Scope of Practice
Every therapist has a defined scope of practice – the areas they are trained and experienced to work in. This page explains what falls within my scope and what does not.
What I Work With
I am an integrative psychotherapist specialising in:
- Coercive control and domestic abuse
- Gender-based violence
- Stalking
- DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender)
- Legal abuse and NDAs
- Institutional betrayal
- Workplace discrimination
- Racism and cross-cultural harm
- Stress and burnout
- Trauma responses and nervous system dysregulation
- Trauma processing and recovery
- Rebuilding trust after harm
I also work with clients navigating life transitions, relationship difficulties, health challenges, and general emotional wellbeing. For a full overview, see Who I Work With.
How I Work
All sessions are held online via a secure video platform. I work with adults across the UK. Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually held weekly. I offer therapy in English, French, German, Persian (Farsi), and Spanish.
For full details on session structure and approach, see How I Work.
What Falls Outside My Scope
There are some areas that fall outside my training and competence, and where I would refer you to a more appropriate professional:
- Psychiatric assessment or diagnosis
- Medication prescription or management
- Couples or family therapy
- Therapy for children or young people under 18
- Forensic assessment or court reporting
- Addiction or substance misuse as the primary presenting issue
- Active psychosis or severe and enduring mental illness requiring specialist psychiatric input
If your needs fall outside my scope, I will do my best to help you find an appropriate professional or service. I will never continue working with you in an area where I am not competent to do so.
Referral and Signposting
If during the course of our work it becomes clear that you need support outside my scope, I will discuss this with you openly. This might mean:
- Suggesting you speak to your GP
- Recommending a specialist service or therapist
- Working alongside another professional with your consent
This is not a reflection of the severity of your difficulties – it is about ensuring you get the right support from the right person.
Professional Accountability
I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework, which requires me to work within my competence at all times. My scope of practice is regularly reviewed through clinical supervision.
